Agency Level API Access

If you have used the Agency Level API access with the Bronto API v3 in the past, and want to transition those powerful capabilities to your new API v4 integration, this post is for you.

First, head on over to Settings->Data Exchange. There you will find a button called Create New API Token. When you create a new API token at the agency level, you have two options. Depending on what you intend to do with the token, you can create an All Clients token, or one that is assigned directly to one of your client accounts. In the screenshot below, the dropdown box allows you to select All Clients, or one of your existing client accounts.

The All Clients token is useful for logging in to the agency and performing agency level activities, such as reading, adding and updating client accounts. Think of this as logging in as an agency administrator. Logging in with an All Clients token will not give you access to contacts, messages, or anything that is contained at the client account level. Similar to when you log in as an agency administrator, you can not send messages, manage contacts, or manage lists until you actually go to a client account.

In order to perform client account level activities, you will need a token that has been assigned specifically for use with that client account. You can either manage these tokens manually, or you can read, add, or update client account tokens with the power of your All Clients token. Once you have a single All Clients token, you will really be able to automate your client account management process.

API v4 gives you much more flexibility than v3 in terms of agency management and access. If you're still using v3, head over to api.bronto.com and see what else you're missing. If you have any questions, please leave them in the comments section below.
